RE: What do you DO?

We are usually with a group so there is a lot of eating, camp fires, and talk. We help each other with any little RV problems we may be having at the time. Lots of walks. What we do beyond that depends on where we are. This past 4 day weekend we watched and photographed snowy egrets, blue herons, red shouldered hawks, turkey buzzards, etc. We went to Chino airport and visited Yanks Air Museum. Really interesting.

RE: Anaheim Rally April 17-19 2009

Happy Thanksgiving to our wonderful RV.net and fine feathered friends!! I hope all of you eat enough to loosen your belt a notch, but not so much you'll be miserable (hard to do when it all smells and tastes sooooo good). I guess SillyWillee stopped by and saw a few of you today? I'm jealous. I was home making pies and other goodies for tomorrow's feast. Tom, that would be shame to have to call in...want us to do a rain dance? Oh wait, then Bill would be called in and have to work over the weekend and miss all the family visiting...hey Bill, stop dancing... (just kidding). Hugs!
And just what is SillyWillee doing visiting my motor home while I'm not there? Thank goodness Mike was keeping an eye on things with his binoculars.

RE: Anaheim Rally April 17-19 2009

Do ya'll mind a tag-a-long, its not to far from Ruthies moms house. I'm not sure if I will make it, but I'm just sayin. Depends on the weather, sposed to snow ya know, and the moho is in the backyard still.
If there are any spots available, you are welcome to join us. Call Canyon RV park and see. We are in site 120 so you would want something in the general vicinity. There should be plenty of grub, but we may have to set up the tents if the weather is bad. We will have kids and grandkids stopping in on Thursday and spending the night with us.
Sorry to hear about Ruthie's dad. I'm not good at this, but please accept my thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

RE: Fleetwood leaving Mexico???

Seems that many refuse to see that the economy is in flames.
The reason these companies are going under is because no-one is buying their product.
You can be the best manager in the world, if there is no market for the product, what can a manager do?
Maybe, if we are lucky, very lucky, the economy will start to turn around in four or five years.
This is serious stuff, it is not your fathers recession!
But corporations, as well as individuals, have to be prepared for the bad times, as well as the good. You can't use debt to expand indefinitely because the good times will end sooner or later.

RE: Anaheim Rally April 17-19 2009

I am just starting to clean the MH, but will have it all ready by Wed. and head down to Canyon. Pinky I thought you knew where we were going??? we did the same thing last year. Tom is going to spray the whole park with fa breeze and there will be no smell.
have a great holiday, and don't eat to much.
You know that riverbed you have to cross to get to our sites? I'm hoping that doesn't fill up this week. I would hate to have to call in to work and tell them I can't get across the river so I won't be in.

RE: What if your Automatic Awning gets stuck ?

Questions such as this is what convinced me that the good old manual awning is the way to go. It's easy to lower and easy to retract. I don't know what the failure rate is for electric awnings but even if is one in a million, being that one could sure ruin an otherwise good trip!
While you're at it, why don't you find an car that has a crank on the front for starting it. That way you don't have to worry about a battery or starter going bad and ruining a trip. And find a campground with hand operated water pumps. You know that electric water pump on your RV could go out anytime and ruin your trip. Don't forget to to take the ice chest to store your perishables. Can't trust those new fangled refrigerators.
Since you asked . . . I have ERS so if the car won't start, I call them and I get towed to somewhere to get the problem resolved. I have stayed in CGs with hand operated water pumps. Most CGs don't have them and you take what you can find. I have had the water pump fail in my RV and I was forced to move to a CG with a water supply. (But at least the failed water pump didn't prevent me from moving.) If the refrigerator should fail, I have the choice of putting ice or dry ice in it or throwing everything away. Again, a failed refrigerator does not stop me from moving.
Now please explain to me how you move your RV if an awning was down and refused to retract. Curious minds want to know!
There is always a way to retract them. But if all else fails, remove the awning.

RE: Anaheim Rally April 17-19 2009

We went and drove through Canyon RV yesterday (Saturday). The smell is gone. At least when there's no wind blowing. We will see once the wind comes up. Driving on the 91 you can really see just how close it came to some of the homes. Damn good job by the fire crews that we didn't lose more homes.
Starting to pack motor home and get ready to head out. We will see some of you this week. A Happy Thanksgiving to all of the rest of you.

RE: What are your plans for '09??

We always make plans a year in advance to insure our group has some where to get together once a month.
Our individual plans for 09 include going to Arizona in March for spring training. Something I've always wanted to do.

RE: Fleetwood purchase

We went through the process of looking at dealers and shows to the point that when my wife said "let's go look at RV's" I said either we buy one now or I'm not looking any more. Yeah, it was nerve racking buying the first one. But you sound like us, you've done the home work and you know on some level that now is the time. So get your motor home and enjoy it. Just make sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb before you accept delivery. And then use the heck out of it. Even if it's just in the driveway at your home. Now is the time to find any problems if you are worried about Fleetwood going under.

RE: I do not know if i can go camping after my wife passed away

My condolences on your loss. I can only imagine your feelings right now. Take your time, allow yourself to go through the grieving process before you make any decisions about anything. Since you mentioned the grand children, I would be willing to bet that when the time is right you will hook up the 5'ver, load the kids and go. And when you do go, maybe you could make it a small group with some of your rv'ing friends so you will have some company.
What ever you decide, good luck and God bless.

RE: Anaheim Rally April 17-19 2009

Jim & Sherri,
Thanks for the update. That's twice in a year and a half they have been threatened by fire. Yeah, there is/was a lot of wildlife that lives in and around the river bed there. That's one of the attractions of the area. Hopefully things will return to "normal" soon.

RE: Once again...Calif is on fire - if you are...

Canyon RV campground is fine......they lost one one 43 year old wood bath house in the group/tent area and a couple of small trees on the property's edge........plus some tall grass vegetation around the river's edge........all of this on the west end.......no damage to any RV"s or other structures........
They were very lucky!
Eric, I think the smaller fire that went through there last year helped them this time. Not as much fuel to burn. Glad to hear they didn't have more damage, as it's a beautiful place to stay.

RE: Anaheim Rally April 17-19 2009

Yes, I heard it stated that we have the best fire crews in the country, if not in the world. We read about how many homes were lost, but look at how many weren't lost. They did a good job
You think it's all the practice they get ?
I started to write that in my original post. :)
